A Macomb County judge rejected a plea of not guilty by reason of insanity and ordered a second mental evaluation of a man who authorities say tried to abduct two children, a decision applauded by the children’s parents.
Circuit Court Judge Matthew Sabaugh ordered an independent psychologist will evaluate Endi Bala, 24, Shelby Township, after the state Center for Forensic Psychiatry determined he was unaware he was breaking the law – the basis for an insanity plea – when he attempted to abduct a 15-year-old girl in Clinton Township then minutes later tried to grab a 7-year-old girl in Sterling Heights, injuring an 8-year-old boy in the process. Both incidents in August 2024 were thwarted, and Bala was arrested at the second scene.
