Should Clinton Township residents have been warned via text message about the shooting at Partridge Creek Mall’s Christmas tree lighting show on Nov. 23?

At least one township trustee thinks so.

Trustee Dan Kress says the administration committed a “communication failure” by not activating the Nixle and Macomb County emergency warning systems.

“To know a gunman was running through the (mall) parking lot would have been incredibly helpful to people sitting in their cars in a traffic jam,” Kress said at Monday’s board meeting.

Township Supervisor Paul Gieleghem and other board members felt otherwise.

Gieleghem, who had attended the tree-lighting show with his wife but left before the violence broke out, said he was notified of the situation
