A pedestrian was killed this morning near downtown after being struck by a vehicle that was fleeing police.
At 6:02 a.m. , Fort Wayne police attempted to stop a vehicle near the intersection of Lawton Place and Griswold Drive just northeast of downtown. The fleeing vehicle traveled west on East Fourth Street, and was making a northbound turn onto Spy Run Avenue when it struck the adult male pedestrian in the roadway at that intersection, according to a news release from the department. The driver then side swiped another vehicle near that intersection.
The driver and sole occupant of the vehicle keep fleeing from police, before stopping in the 1400 block of Spy Run Avenue. The driver parked the vehicle and fled on foot. He was observed throwing a handgun into the grass.
