DEDHAM, Mass. —

Brian Walshe , who is accused of killing and dismembering his wife around the start of 2023, decided that he will not testify at his trial.

Defense attorney Larry Tipton informed the court of the decision before the judge entered the room on Thursday morning. He also told Judge Diane Freniere that the defense would call no witnesses.

Freniere later conducted a colloquy with Walshe, asking him directly about his understanding of his rights, clarity of mind and his ultimate decision.

"I will not testify," Brian Walshe said.

After the judge formally accepted that decision, the jury was called into the courtroom where the defense rested its case without calling any witnesses or presenting any evidence.
