Plans submitted to demolish a former church in Wyken and replace it with flats have taken a step closer. MacDonald Road Methodist Church has sat empty and boarded up for years.

It was once a vibrant site at the heart of the community but closed its doors way back in 2017. The 1950s building was subsequently sold and in 2022 developers sought permission to knock it down and build 14 one and two bedroom apartments, a plan that was eventually thrown out by planning bosses.

But a new plan was filed the following year, instead for 10 homes, which apparently allayed concerns that had arisen from the initial application. Permission was granted for the new scheme, though with eighteen conditions - despite concerns raised by residents.
