Brian Walshe’s defense team will not call any witnesses, choosing to rest their case Thursday morning instead of presenting any evidence on the defendant’s behalf in his first-degree murder trial.

Walshe is accused of killing his wife Ana in the early hours of Jan. 1, 2023 at their Cohasset rental home. Last month, he pleaded guilty to lying to police about her disappearance and mishandling her body but maintains that he’s innocent of murder.

For the first time since the murder trial started, Walshe spoke in court to decline his right to testify in his own defense.

“Another chapter in the case has closed, that is you’ve heard all the evidence,” Judge Diane Freniere said to the jury, reminding them, “The defense has no burden in this case.”
