For the second time in as many days, the Mets saw a longtime star leave in free agency, as Pete Alonso agreed to a five-year contract with the Baltimore Orioles. Having been drafted and developed by the Mets in 2016, Alonso spent the entirety of his professional career in the organization up until that point. Alonso famously broke Darryl Strawberry’s franchise record for home runs when he hit his 253rd home run this summer. He hit a bunch more after that, too, and finishes his time in orange and blue with 264 home runs.
