A murder investigation is underway following the death of a 39-year-old woman as police hunt the killer.
The victim was discovered at an address on Old Brompton Road, Earl's Court, London , at around 11.15am yesterday (Wednesday, December 10). Officers made the sad discovery while carrying out a welfare check prompted by a concerning 999 call.
The Metropolitan Police says efforts are ongoing to identify the victim and inform her next of kin while nobody has been arrested at this stage. A post-mortem will also be held in "due course".
Detective Chief Inspector Wayne Jolley, who is leading the investigation at Specialist Crime, said that it is a "priority" for the team and offered his sympathy to the friends and family of the victim.
He said: “My team are conducting urgent enquiries to establish the full circumstances that led to this woman’s tragic death. I know this news will cause concern among the local and wider community. I would like to reassure them that our investigation remains a priority.
"My upmost sympathy goes to the victim’s family and friends during this painful time. I urge anyone who has information about this incident to contact us as soon as possible.”
The full statement from the police read: "Met detectives have launched a murder investigation following the death of a woman at an address on Old Brompton Road, Earls Court.
"On Wednesday, 10 December at 11:15hrs police responded to a call raising concerns and conducted a welfare check at the address. Sadly, the body of a woman, aged 39, was found at the scene. Efforts are ongoing to identify her and inform her next of kin."
It continued: "No arrests have been made at this stage. A post-mortem examination will be held in due course. A scene remains in place on Old Brompton Road and residents can expect to see an increased police presence over the coming days.
