FRANKFORT, Ky. — A 19-year-old Kentucky State University student was shot and killed on campus Tuesday afternoon, and police have charged the parent of another KSU student with murder and first-degree assault.

De'Jon Fox died from gunfire near Young Hall while another student remains in critical condition at a hospital. Police arrested 48-year-old Jacob Lee Bard in connection with the shooting.

"Our investigation has determined that Mr. Bard is the parent of a Kentucky State University student," Frankfort Assistant Police Chief Scott Tracy said.

Court documents said Bard was "involved in a physical altercation" before the shooting, though Tracy could not confirm what led to the violence.

Police said university police officers were nearby when the incident occurred.
