The NHS has admitted it is facing the "worst case scenario" in December after a new variant of flu continues to pummel Britain.

Flu hospitalisations have surged by more than half in just one week, new figures have revealed together. Last week along, there were an average of 2,660 patients per day in hospital with the flu.

The health body shared how this is the highest ever recorded amount for this time of year. Worryingly, NHS bosses have warned that there is no peak in sight just yet as the flu statistics continue to hike.
