COLUMBIA, S.C. — The countdown to Christmas begins. As of this Sunday, only 11 days left for shopping, gathering and more this holiday season.

The weather seems to be cooperating, getting folks into the wintry spirit with sunny days chilly nights. Keep this in mind if you plan on attending any of the handful of parades taking place Saturday morning in the Columbia area. Add some layers to stay warm while watching the passing floats and marching bands or staying after to take in local holiday festivals.

If you prefer staying indoors, maybe plan on catching The Bash, a showcase of high school basketball Thursday through Saturday at Ridge View High School in Columbia, or University of South Carolina men's and women's teams at Colonial Life Arena on Saturday and Sunday.
