Jacob Lee Bard, the Evansville man charged in connection to the deadly shooting at Kentucky State University, entered a not guilty plea during an arraignment hearing on Thursday, Dec. 11.

Bard, 48, is facing murder and assault charges. He is being held at the Franklin County Regional Jail in lieu of a $1 million cash bond.

According to an arrest citation, Bard was involved in "a physical altercation" on campus, during which he "produced a handgun and shot two other individuals."

Little is known about happened in the lead-up to the shooting. Bard isn't a student at the university, but does have two sons who attend the school and are listed as members of the baseball team. The campus lies just outside Kentucky's capital city, about 175 miles from Evansville.
