NORFOLK, Va. — As winter gets underway, snow lovers across Virginia have had plenty to smile about recently . Early-season snowfall totals across the Commonwealth are already outpacing some of the Northeast’s largest cities—an unusual, but impressive, start to the 2025–2026 season.

According to the latest National Weather Service data through Dec. 9, several Virginia locations have recorded measurable—and in some cases substantial—snowfall. Blacksburg has picked up 8 inches, while Roanoke checks in at 6.5 inches. Danville has reported 2.3 inches, and even Norfolk on the coast has measured 1 inch—a rarity this early in the season. Richmond has seen 6 inches, far above what is typical for early December.
