A Virginia neighborhood got a scare on Wednesday afternoon from an armed ICE officer impersonator "aggressively banging on doors," police say.
Officers from the Prince William County Police Department were called by a resident shortly before 4:30 p.m. to the 12800 block of House Lp in Woodbridge about a suspicious man who had been acting aggressively at the Glen Ridge Commons Apartment complex.
Police say that around 1 p.m., an unknown man approached an apartment and proceeded to aggressively bang on the door.
The suspect in question was wearing tactical gear to make himself appear official, including:
-
A holstered firearm;
- Black plate carrier with a badge on the chest;
- Black mask;
- Gloves;
- Black T-shirt with patches on the shoulders reading "ICE".
The "officer" also identified himself as an ICE agent to the resident through the door, which was never opened.
According to the department, investigators contacted US Immigration and Customs Enforcement, who confirmed that the man was not in any way associated with their agency.
The phony ICE agent remains at large as of Thursday, Dec. 11.
He was described as a white man in his mid-20s to mid-30s, standing approximately 6-foot-2 tall and weighing 240 pounds.
Anyone with information regarding the law enforcement impersonator can contact the department by calling (703) 792-7000.
