ROCHESTER, Minn. - About 400 elementary to high school students from more than 150 teams across 20 schools in Southeast Minnesota gathered at RCTC on Wednesday afternoon for the 17th annual IBM LEGO Education Outreach Competition.

Students have been learning how to build robots out of LEGOs since September. This is a process that involves learning hard skills like engineering, coding, and software. As well as soft skills like teamwork, learning how to overcome conflict, and how to compete fairly.

Mentors from IBM have been working with students in preparation for the event. They have taught the students why LEGOs can be such a useful tool when it comes to STEM skills.
