1FORKED RIVER, NJ – A gentle, loyal dog named Piper has spent more than 400 days waiting at the Associated Humane Societies shelter in Forked River, hoping someone will finally take her home.
Piper once had a family and a home of her own after being adopted as a young pup.
But after her owner passed away, she was returned to the shelter through no fault of her own — and she’s been there ever since.
More than a year of waiting
Shelter staff say Piper has become their longest resident, living at the facility for well over a year while watching other dogs come and go. During a short foster stay after surgery, she showed a loving, calm nature that impressed her caregivers.
