Clay, N.Y. — A home in Clay was heavily damaged early Thursday when a fire ripped through the roof of the house.
Around 3 a.m., a 911 caller reported the fire at 5408 Caughdenoy Road, according to Onondaga County 911 Center dispatchers. The caller told dispatchers they saw smoke and fire coming from the windows and that the home’s siding was melting.
When firefighters arrived, they found no one inside the house, dispatchers said. Flames were shooting out from the roof as crews began their attack, firefighters told dispatchers.
Firefighters said the home’s only occupant managed to get out on their own before crews arrived. They were taken to a hospital for evaluation, according to the Clay Fire Department.
