ROCK COUNTY, Wis. — A local sheriff's office is warning residents of callers pretending to be from the office.

The Rock County Sheriff's Office said it was told about fake phone calls to local citizens where the caller or callers would say they were a Rock County Lieutenant.

The caller(s) were reported to be using fake names but giving out real phone numbers associated with the Sheriff's Office.

It was said the caller(s) would then tell the person to send money to clear up a legal issue, like satisfying a warrant or paying a fine for missing jury duty.

Those phone calls are fake, according to the Sheriff's Office, whose personnel do not call citizens asking for money to cancel a warrant or because they missed jury duty.
