City expands winter weather response

Lexington officials say the city has invested $2.2 million in additional snow equipment and personnel this year. The city’s response plan includes more than 100 personnel and dozens of pieces of equipment, plus contractor support.

The city handles snow removal on more than 1,400 lane miles of local roads and 84 miles of sidewalk, while the state manages nearly 900 lane miles of state roads. Streets are prioritized based on traffic volume and use by public transportation, emergency services and schools.
