Dear Care and Feeding,

There’s a significant age gap between my younger brother, “Sam,” and myself (I’m 13 years older; he was a “surprise” for my parents). Sam is 15, and five months ago, our parents kicked him out of the house after they learned that he is gay. He landed with my husband and me. Sam seems to be doing much better since he is no longer with our parents, and fortunately my husband and I can afford to support him (my parents haven’t contributed so much as a penny in child support). My brother now has a much more positive outlook on life, his grades have improved, and he says he’s fine. Should we insist on some sort of counseling for him all the same consider
