Syracuse, N.Y. — It turns out that when New Hartford football head coach Jim Kramer helped his team raise the Section III Class B title banner last month, he was doing more than just putting an end to two seasons of disappointment.
Although few others knew it at the time, Kramer was also wrapping up his career with a fitting bow.
Kramer had decided that this would be his last season coaching New Hartford, a tidbit he didn’t tell his players until earlier this week. He had coached the Spartans since 2017, pushing the team to three straight sectional title games.
After losing to Indian River each of the past two seasons, New Hartford topped Institute of Technology Central this fall to earn the program’s first sectional title since 2008. New Hartford then fell to Owego in the state regiona
