THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Minister P. Rajeev said the government has no special interest or stubbornness regarding the appointment of vice-chancellors (VCs). He told the media that discussions failed because the Chancellor took a rigid stand. He added that the Supreme Court’s order on VC appointments is welcome and that the government fully agrees with it.

"The government has no insistence on who should be appointed as VC. The only requirement is that the person must be capable of improving the university’s standards. The government tried to reach a consensus as directed by the Supreme Court. That is why the Chief Minister held discussions with the Chancellor.
