Ford has ended its partnership with South Korean battery maker SK On and will take control of the Kentucky facility, according to Reuters.

The battery plant in Glendale, Kentucky, will now be the sole responsibility of Ford, as SK On intends to take control of the plant in Tennessee.

This move comes as electric vehicle demand in the U.S. has slowed and South Korean battery makers are rethinking their strategies in America due to subsidies.

Ford said in a statement it is aware of SK On's disclosure to end the partnership but declined to comment further.

"Ford has been a great partner to Kentucky, and we're going to work with them to get the best outcome and result that we can," Gov. Andy Beshear said.
