Eduardo Manzano, a beloved Mexican comedy icon known for his work in the duo “Los Polivoces,” has died at 87.

“Today, the curtain has fallen on the stage of life. My father, a comedian loved by thousands and a human being admired by all who knew him, has left this world. He was an extraordinary man, kind, intelligent, and with a heart as big as his talent,” said Lalo Manzano, the actor’s son on Dec. 5. The elder Manzano died Dec. 4.

Manzano, alongside partner Enrique Cuenca, created a gallery of memorable characters that became cultural touchstones in Mexican society during the 1960s and ’70s. Their sketches portrayed everyday Mexican life through relatable characters drawn from banks, markets and neighborhoods.
