Jermiah Copeland appeared in court Wednesday as Navy attorneys prepare for his June trial in the killing of sailor Angelina Resendiz and alleged assaults on four other women. Judge Frank Hutchison heard arguments on 18 motions, including motions to exclude evidence and one related to pretrial punishment. Hutchison will rule on most of them later.
Resendiz went missing on May 29 from Naval Station Norfolk. At Wednesday’s hearing, the court heard that Copeland had invited her to his barracks at X2 the evening before to make tacos and listen to music. When a friend received a panicked call from Resendiz in the early hours of May 29, he drove to X2 but could not find her. She was found dead 11 days later.
