TAMPA, Fla. — You can only say so much on a headstone. But a picture, as Mark Christopher Williams will tell you, is worth a thousand words.

It’s why when his son DeMarcus passed away at just 16 years old, he placed a cover on his grave at Rest Haven Memorial Park with photos of him.

“I can see a picture of him,” Williams said. “When I can walk and stand over him and look at a picture, it gives you a greater feeling that I can look at my son while I'm looking at the stone at the same time.”

But Tuesday morning, he found it had been removed from his grave and placed in a pile along with dozens.

“It just looked like trash,” he said. “It was a reminder of your loved one, and it got snatched up without no warning.”
