President Donald Trump has often said that since he took office in January, the United States has received trillions of dollars in promises of investments, but are those figures credible?

On Trump's second day in office, he said the United States had already secured nearly $3 trillion of new investments. By May 8, the figure had risen to "close to $10 trillion."

The claims eventually peaked on Oct. 29 at "$21 or $22 trillion," and since then, Trump has cited a lower figure, at $18 trillion.

PolitiFact chief correspondent Lou Jacobson said there are a few problems with Trump's claims. The White House website has documented a much lower figure of $9.6 trillion, about half of what Trump has been saying.

Jacobson also noted that the White House figure should be taken with a grain of salt.
