ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) — A Georgia representative has introduced a bill that, if passed, would give Clayton County access to millions more in tax dollars.
In 2014, the Federal Aviation Administration amended its policies , saying that state and local sales taxes on aviation fuel can only be used for airport purposes. It also requires those applying for airport improvement grants to prove the tax is not being used on anything else.
But under Rep. David Scott’s Airport Revenue Clarity Act, those rules would be waived for local governments that have a generally applicable sales tax and do not directly sponsor large hub airports in their jurisdiction. That includes Clayton County and the Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport.
