Gov. Glenn Youngkin signed the amended versions of identical bills HB2637 and SB1377 in 2025 to improve mental health first aid for Virginia youth. This is also known as the Commonwealth Mental Health First Aid Program, and is an important training that everyone in Virginia should be aware of.

Virginia ranks near the bottom of all 50 states when it comes to youth mental health. This is a combination of the high prevalence among Virginia youth and limited access to treatment. The most effective way to provide mental health treatment for youth is in school settings. HB2637 and SB1377 will provide accessible training to high school staff and students in Virginia.
