MONTREAL - The mayor of Longueuil, Que., is asking the Quebec government to investigate police actions in the aftermath of a fatal police shooting involving a 15-year-old boy.
Mayor Catherine Fournier says she took the exceptional decision to ask Public Security Minister Ian Lafrenière to step in after letters from the police watchdog to Longueuil's police chief alleged breaches of legal and regulatory obligations.
Fifteen-year-old Nooran Rezayi was shot dead by police on Sept. 21.
Fournier notes that the city cannot interfere in police operations and that after she was informed of the letters in November, she asked Lafrenière to investigate under the Police Act.
