MISHAWAKA, Ind. (WNDU) - Sixth graders from Battell Elementary School participated in Wreaths Across America on Thursday, unloading over 3,000 wreaths at Fairview Cemetery.
The mission of Wreaths Across America is to remember the fallen, honor those who serve and teach the next generation the value of freedom.
“We had a police escort this morning to bring in the wreaths. And then the kids came in they walked in from Battell Elementary School to help unload,” said Betty Paige Keranen, a former Marine and local organizer for Battell Elementary School and Wreaths Across America.
Wreaths Across America has sponsored all the veterans at Fairview Cemetery. The cemetery has over 3,000 veterans buried there.
