Kristen Hogan

A woman in a posh Connecticut town already accused of trying to poison her estranged partner with a toxic substance found in antifreeze now faces fresh trouble. State Police say she tried to rig a DNA test in a probation case by using her nephew to pose as her own son.

Kristen Hogan, 33, of New Canaan, who was already facing multiple felonies, turned herself in to police on Thursday on charges of tampering with evidence and three counts of perjury. She was released on a $50,000 bond, according to State Police.

Police say Hogan used her sister's son to falsify a DNA test meant to determine the paternity of her son and daughter. Investigators laid out the scheme in a new arrest warrant.

According to police, she has been involved in a long-running paternity dispute with a man who claims to be the biological father of the children. He claimed in court testimony that told him the children were his, and then later backtracked.

The new charges come as Hogan already faces serious accusations.

She was arrested in October and charged with two counts of attempted murder and one count of interfering with an officer. NBC Connecticut shared clips from her October court appearance here.

Police said the case started when a Ridgefield man was hospitalized in August. A blood test revealed ethylene glycol, a sweet-tasting toxic chemical commonly found in antifreeze, her arrest warrant said.

The warrant says Hogan first denied but later admitted to putting the toxic substance in a bottle of wine.

She told investigators she didn't want to kill him but wanted to make him sick as payback because she felt he was mentally abusive. Police say she also confessed to putting ethylene glycol in an iced tea bottle belonging to the victim on another occasion.

Hogan has been free on bond after posting a $1 million bond following her Oct. 3 arrest.
