Four seasons ago, John Sindoni spiked a fourth-down pass into the dirt because the designed screen play was blown up.
It was the right play for the first-year freshman quarterback to make. He knew it; his coach, who was also his father, Joe Sindoni, knew it, but the crowd didn’t, and they let him hear it.
He sat on the bench as his own fans heckled him like he was undeserving of the starting quarterback spot he earned.
“My heart broke for him,” Joe said. “And he sat there and he took it and I didn’t say anything. I turned around, but I remember from that moment — he never let that affect him or deter him. And he just kept working."
Joe heard all the comments thrown John’s way.
“He caught a lot of crap. (They called him) Daddy’s boy and (said) you suck and this and that,” Joe said.
