A 65-year-old inmate at the Duval County Jail died Wednesday after he was hospitalized for a pre-existing medical condition, the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office said.

Michael Waddington, who was serving time for a 12-month sentence after a mid-February arrest for the sale and delivery of cocaine, complained of chest pains on Dec. 5.

Jacksonville Fire Rescue responded to evaluate Waddington. Then, he was taken to the hospital.

JSO said he had a pre-existing medical condition that worsened during his hospital stay, ultimately leading to his death on Wednesday.

There were no reported incidents with other inmates or staff in the days leading up to his recent medical episode. There is also no foul play suspected.

The investigation is ongoing.
