JEFFERSON, Texas (KLTV) - The state is now investigating a fire that happened at an East Texas Church Tuesday night. The Macedonia Baptist Church at 604 South Friou Street in Jefferson was reported on fire shortly after 6 P.M. The church had to be partially torn down to make it safe for investigators.
Jefferson Police Chief Florentino Perez says the fire investigation couldn’t begin immediately for safety reasons.
“We are getting some equipment in to excavate and get to the bare bones of the situation,” Perez said.
That happened by midafternoon and the K-9 was able to go to work. The chief says it’s been a while since a service was held at the church.
