JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (KFVS) - A new congressional map that is likely to send one more Republican - and by consequence, one less Democrat - to Washington D.C. is meant to go into effect Thursday.
Opponents of the map raced to get signatures turned in before Thursday, hoping it would stop the map from going into effect. They succeeded, only to have both the attorney general and secretary of state tell them the map is in effect anyway.
The congressional map signed by Gov. Mike Kehoe creates new districts for Missouri’s representation in the U.S. House of Representatives, and carves up the Kansas City district currently held by Congressman Emanuel Cleaver.
From the time the map was passed in mid-September til now, petitioners had only 90 days to gather hundreds of thousands of signatures. Pe
