Senior forward Josie Fontana, a Richmond recruit, finished with a double-double with 10 points and 15 rebounds while junior guard Madi Pullen chipped in 10 as Class 4A No. 2-ranked Oakland Catholic (1-1, 1-0) won its first game of the season in a 43-21 mercy-rule victory against No. 1 North Catholic (2-1, 0-1) in the Section 1 opener for both teams.
“It was one game. We lost to them in the first meeting last year, but we are much further ahead at this time than we were last year,” Oakland Catholic coach Henry Schechter said. “But they’re a good team and it’s just one game.”
