CHEYENNE — During a budget presentation to the Wyoming Legislature’s Joint Appropriations Committee on Thursday, lawmakers and State Superintendent of Public Instruction Megan Degenfelder began to unpack the complex issue of managing charter schools in the state.
As Degenfelder was presenting several exemption requests in the WDE budget for the upcoming session, legislators kept returning to concerns about charter schools.
Specifically, several lawmakers wanted to address the Wyoming Charter School Authorizing Board (WCSAB) and an ongoing conversation about how to manage charter schools.
Degenfelder presented a request from the board to introduce a net-to-zero position and budget transfer so that the WCSAB could establish its own separate budget unit, similar to that of the State Board
