ALAMOSA, Colo. (KKTV) - The Alamosa Police Department (APD) said a Colorado Springs man was shot by police after he charged officers with a knife on Monday.
APD said 43-year-old Joseph Tafoya of Colorado Springs was in Alamosa when a domestic assault occurred. Police said Tafoya left the home he was visiting before officers arrived, but he was later found in an open field armed with a knife.
APD said officers tried to de-escalate the situation, but after attempts were unsuccessful, an officer deployed his taser.
According to police, the taser hit the suspect but was ineffective, and Tafoya charged towards officers while holding the knife. Police said an officer then fired their weapon, hitting Tafoya twice.
Medical assistance was provided before Tafoya was transported to a hospital for
