AUSTIN, Texas — A case of pertussis, otherwise known as whooping cough, was reported at McCallum High School Thursday, according to the Austin-Travis County Health Authority.
The school sent a message to families on Thursday confirming the positive case. ATCHA said that it is working with the school's administration to prevent further spread of the disease.
The case is the latest reported in Travis County . In October, Austin Public Health reported that at least six cases of whooping cough had been confirmed at Lamar Middle School since August.
More than 3,500 whooping cough cases have been confirmed in Texas so far in 2025, the highest number in more than a decade.
