GRAND HAVEN, Mich. — The next time you drive into Grand Haven, Spring Lake, or Ferrysburg, you may notice new signs of patriotism on your way into any one of those communities.
Earlier this year, each of the Tri-Cities became "Purple Heart Communities," which means they officially recognize and support service members who were wounded or killed in combat.
"When you come here and you see the Purple Heart Community signage, that's a sign to families and the soldiers that you're entering into a place that understands and has a history like your loved one may have had, or your family member may have had, or friend, and that there's an understanding to honor their bravery, courageousness, everything that goes in with being a part of a Purple Heart Medal awarding," said military historian Dr.
