CHANDLER, Ariz. — The Chandler City Council voted against a proposed AI data center after many residents voiced their opposition to the project.

Emails to the Chandler City Council were running 20 to 1 against the $2 billion project as of the end of last week, according to a city spokesman. Many opponents to the plan packed the council chambers to hear how the council would vote.

Active Infrastructure, a New York-based developer, envisioned building a data center that would have housed the robust computing power required for artificial intelligence applications. The data center would be surrounded by several office buildings.
