SACRAMENTO, Calif. —
Dana Williamson, a former top aide to Gov. Gavin Newsom who is facing 23 federal charges, did not attend her court hearing Thursday.
Williamson's attorneys last week informed the court she would waive her right to appear for smaller routine court dates, such as Thursday's status conferences, moving forward. Her lawyer, McGregor Scott, told reporters Thursday she is dealing with a serious medical issue and is waiting for a liver transplant.
"We're trying to save her health," Scott said.
He noted she will show up for significant motions in the case and trial.
