Members of the Santa Fe school board showed a united front this week over a set of legislative goals presented as aiming to ease a cost-of-living crisis that has pushed swathes of district staff to commute from cheaper communities like Rio Rancho and presented roadblocks in attracting new talent to work in the district.

The three priorities, unveiled by board members during a Wednesday school board meeting, include state capital outlay for new affordable teacher housing projects; advocacy for an 80/20 rule, under which district employees would pay just 20% of their insurance costs regardless of salary; and promoting an increase to the State Equalization Guarantee to provide more state funds to school districts.
