Only one house in the entire council area of Middlesbrough is set to meet the new mansion tax threshold. While the surcharge of at least £2,500 is set to hit tens of thousands of properties across the country from 2028, it is believed that only one home in Middlesbrough will be on the receiving end.

The annual charge will vary, depending on the specific value of £2m+ properties, with four separate fees, all of which will come on top of existing council tax. The lowest band (of £2,500) will hit properties valued between £2m and £2.5m, which will affect the one Middlesbrough dwelling valued at approximately £2.4m.
