Since its debut about a year ago, the Polk County Life Services Center has treated thousands of patients battling alcohol disorders and mental health issues, saving trips to the emergency room or jail, leaders say.

But surrounding neighbors, who questioned what the center could mean for the area's vitality and public safety ahead of its opening , remain uncertain about its location.
