1993 – The Orioles sign free agent 1B Rafael Palmeiro, while the Indians hand free agent Dennis Martinez a two-year contract worth $9 million. With the Expos, Martinez passed up his chance to reach the playoffs with the Braves when he nixed an August 25th trade, exercising his veto rights as a 10-and-5 player.
