A quiet stretch of road in Silver Spring turned into a high-stakes rescue Friday morning after a fatal crash left multiple people trapped — including a critically injured child.

Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service crews were dispatched around 9:20 a.m. on Friday, Dec. 12, to the intersection of Good Hope Drive and Good Hope Road for a severe motor vehicle crash with entrapment, officials said.

Fire officials reported that a "pediatric Priority 1 patient" — the most serious classification — was among those injured in the wreck.

Another person remained trapped inside a vehicle as rescue crews worked to extricate occupants and provide advanced life support at the scene, according to MCFRS.

Shortly before 10 a.m. on Friday, police confirmed that one man was pronounced dead at the scene. A second man and child suffered non-life-threatening injuries.

Emergency responders flooded the area as firefighters focused on stabilizing the vehicles and safely freeing those inside.

Officials urged drivers to avoid the area while crews operated, warning that the scene remained active as responders worked through the rescue.

No additional details about the cause of the crash or the conditions of the patients had been released as of Friday morning.

Updates are expected as more information becomes available.
