Bill 2, the Legault government’s controversial law revising how the province’s doctors are paid, has been dramatically watered down as part of a tentative deal with Quebec’s general practitioners, according to a report on Friday by Radio-Canada.
The report says that the deal — which will be submitted to family doctors on Friday for approval — will no longer contain the threat of sanctions against physicians who do not meet government-established performance indicators, which was a key element of the law tabled by Health Minister Christian Dubé.
Another element of the law that has been reportedly scrapped is the objective of providing 1.2 million patients with access to a family doctor by 2027. Instead, the new target is the voluntary enrolment of 500,000 patients by June 30, 2026.
