BIRMINGHAM, Ala. —
A large company is relocating to Central Alabama.
Sen. Tommy Tuberville of Alabama said Monday that the Federal National Mortgage Association, commonly known as Fannie Mae , is relocating its San Francisco offices to Birmingham.
The government-sponsored enterprise was founded in 1938 during President Franklin D. Roosevelt's New Deal to address the secondary mortgage market during the Great Depression.

It is unclear how many jobs the relocation will bring, but Tuberville said the move will create jobs and opportunity in Birmingham.
"Relocating Fannie Mae from San Francisco to Birmingham will not only save taxpayers' money but also bring jobs and opportunities to our state," he said. "Birmingham was once
